An electronic invoice, also called e-invoice or e-invoicing, is an invoice issued, transmitted and received in dematerialized form.

As for a classic invoice, it must include several mandatory data:

  • date of issue
  • customer’s SIREN number
  • goods delivery address
  • etc.

What obligations for companies in 2024?

Since January 1, 2020, all French companies were already required to send invoices to a public establishment (the State, a school, a hospital, etc.) in electronic format.

To go further, article 26 of law n° 2022-1157 of August 16, 2022 also requires companies established in France to gradually switch to mandatory electronic invoicing .

They must use the Public Invoicing Portal or a private Partner Dematerialization Platform (PDP).

What are the deadlines for electronic invoicing?

All companies are required to create an account via the Public Billing Portal or via a partner and this from July 01, 2024.

From July 1, 2024, all companies subject to VAT will have to accept the receipt of electronic invoices by registering on a platform.

In addition, they must be able to issue customer invoices electronically within the following timeframes:

  • July 1, 2024 for large companies (more than 5,000 employees or more than 1.5 billion euros in turnover);
  • January 1, 2025 for medium-sized companies (from 250 to 4,999 employees);
